Mr. LeatherMan Vancouver 2011
January 9th, 2011
The Mr. LeatherMan Vancouver 2011 report.
As some of you know I was invited to participate in the production of The 2nd Annual Mr. LeatherMan Vancouver 2011 Contest, held at The Junction Pub on Saturday December 11, 2010. I meant to write a follow-up about it earlier. With the Holiday Season spend in Quebec and Lebanon, I could not find the time to put it together.
As I walked in at 9 o’clock - late because I was putting the last touches on the Emcees’ cue cards in my home office - I was pleasantly surprise by the turn out. The crowd kept growing all through the evening. The room looked busy without being over crowded. it was dark and sexy. The crowd was dressed up for the part with LeatherMan everywhere.
Tattoos, hairy pumped pecs, pot bellies, goatees, beards, harnesses, whips, handcuffs, chains, blindfolds... You name it! All the hanky colors and all the kink accessories were available through a LeatherMan if one needed them. There was no nudity besides various pair of bums in chaps and the Titan Men Model Slide-Show on the main screen. The LeatherMen and a few very friendly LeatherWoman of Vancouver, Victoria, Alberta, Washington States and various other areas were looking sharp. They were in a great mood ready for a fun, friendly, attitude-free night of mingling and live entertainment.
I saw old friends and acquaintances and met a mix of new people: Master, Sir, Herr, Daddy, Bear, Wolfe, Dominatrix, Slave, Miss, Boy, Boi, Son... any kink groups you can think of were represented. There was also a few curious first-timers as well as experienced leather event attendees like myself. We could really smell the testosterone in the air.
The show started 15 minutes late to built a little anticipation and at 9:45 pm sharp the Vancouver Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence took the stage on their unique take of “F!&T* me for Christmas”, currently available on YouTube. With their unique make-up and wear they commanded the room right away. I was impressed with their various comedy and stage performances, let alone the excellent crowd animation they were busy at all night.
The event was held without contestants - no one signed up - but that didn't stop us from having a great party. We had in store a line-up of various live and multi-media entertainment to fill the evening. Comedy singing, acrobatic acts, kink demonstration, Judge and Title-Holder interviews were part of the event line-up. Over $1,000 in value of various gift certificates from our generous sponsors were donated through a series of live contests, trivia and crowd participation arranged by our Emcees.
Doug Mitchell, the 1st Mr. LeatherMan Vancouver 2010 Title-Holder had an opportunity to step down and eloquently express his gratitude for the opportunity he had during his title year and for raising 3,000 for BCPWA (BC Persons with Aids Society).
The event was over before Midnight and live dancing continue with DJ Drew. Thanks to those who attended, $740.00 was raised for BCPWA. We generally received good feedback and people had a good time. We hope to raise awareness to the event. We are confident the Mr. LeatherMan Vancouver Contest will have contestants for the 2012 edition.
Thanks to co-chair and head judge Nikitas Chondroyannos for inviting me to join his team. It was a very rewarding experience and I had the opportunity to meet wonderful people.
